Less is sometimes more. That's especially true with regard to the number of inputs and outputs. Many applications these days call for simple input and output configurations ? and require maximum quality and performance in conjunction with a variety of software products. The AudioSystem EWS96 M offers fully balanced stereo inputs and outputs (6.3 mm jack)
and attains audio performance values that challenge costly high-end and mastering equipment as well as DAT recorders. In addition to ?10dBv and +4dBu selection, high-quality analog pre- and power amplifiers guarantee adequate headroom and a switchable boost. An S/PDIF interface (coaxial, directly on the card) and MIDI are also featured.
What's more, the AudioSystem EWS96 M is the ultimate supplementary solution for EWS64 users that place great value on current converter technology or require true 24/96 audio processing in addition to sampling. The DigitalXtension F and microWAVE PC drive-bay modules can also be run and fully utilized on an EWS96 M!
But with regard to upgrade options, that's definitely not everything: additionally ? for everyday applications ? a connection is provided for the optional MediaXtension R. This features optical S/PDIF inputs and outputs (e.g. for MiniDisk), as well as all standard PC audio interfaces (Line I/O, up to 16-bit and 48 kHz), a microphone connection (without phantom power) and a 15-pin D-Sub connector for MIDI I/O and/or the connection of a TerraTec phonoPreAmp (high-quality phono amplifier with power supply via D-Sub).
All EWS PCI cards can be upgraded with the EWSyncX module. This ensures perfect synchronization with the digital outside world. The module can either generate the clock signal used to synchronize all external devices, or it can follow an external clock.

do you know if terratec will do some ews "upgrade" option? i dunno if anyone will buy my ews...that would be the second piece of terratec hardware that's just cybertrash for me (frontpanel --> mwpc). how much will the card cost?
ews88mt users: is the midi/audio sync working fine for you (in logic audio and cubase)?

Hi there!

I just wonder whether future terratec releases will combine gaming with professional sound. I mean the only 3D-sound solutions are currently aiming at the low-end market. There is of course indirect support for surround via the digital output, but you need an expensive decoder to take advantage of it. An aureal implementation would be very good IMHO.
Anyway thw only current solution which claims to combine the two worlds is, well, the platinum, but I do not buy products with an exclamation mark in their name :-))))).
